In this beautiful church, the stained glass windows have been lost in a fire and replaced by plain transparent glass. In this light-flooded space, the stone patterns in the high pointed arched windows then became the most significant details in the church. I took the shapes in the windows as an inspiration and created a family of related shapes to become the liturgical furniture for this imposing church. The composition is inspired by a flower that is about to unfold. To create the tight curves without breaking, thin layers of wood have been steam bent and glued in the same order as they were originally sliced out of the tree. Designed with Steven van Kooten.
